About this Guide

This guide was created to help employees with IT related information regarding fall 2021 return and includes information from our Self-Service Articles, Service pages, and Tech Tips to bring you a summary of what you need to know in regards to technology and services supported by the Division of Information Technology.

This guide had a planned retirement date of November 15, 2021. Retirement date now extended to May 15, 2022.

Before you return to campus

Move your files/documents to Google Drive

If you have any files saved locally on a personal computer at home, be sure to move them to Google Drive to access the files from work computers.

Forget FITAIR on your computer and phones

Most devices cache your password to automatically connect to Wi-Fi networks you have marked as trusted, like FITAIR. However, the password saved on many of your devices is likely your old password, which will result in the device trying to connect with an invalid password once you are in range of FITAIR, causing your account to be locked or temporarily suspended. Follow our instructions to “forget” FITAIR on all your devices before your return, and rejoin with your current password when you get to campus.

Your first day in the office

Reboot your computer and allow time for updates

We regularly deploy updates and system patches to fix security vulnerabilities and improve overall computer performance; for these upgrades to take effect, your computer needs to be on and restarted regularly. If your computer was turned off, it will take time to reboot and apply all the updates/patches from the past year. If your computer has been turned on, reboot the computer. It may take several reboots before all the updates are applied: If this is true in your case, the computer will direct you to reboot when it needs to.

Update out-of-office messages

Revise your email and voicemail out-of-office messages. For additional assistance with your FIT desk phone, view our telephone service page, including tips on checking your FIT voicemail and quickly deleting voicemail messages.

In order to manage your FIT password without contacting TechHelp for assistance, you must register to use Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR).
