Classroom Printing

Limited printing is available in labs during scheduled class hours for class projects only. Faculty are expected to monitor printing abuses during their class. When classes are not in session, classroom printing is disabled. During approved after-hours classroom use, students may select a pay-for-print printer and release their prints from one of our release stations.

Printers in classrooms and labs are set to “Draft” or “Eco-mode” for faster printing and to use minimal ink. For photo or presentation-grade prints, please visit PrintFX and FabLab for professional printing services.

Office Printing

Networked all-in-one printers are available in departmental offices for staff and faculty, reducing costs by limiting the need for personal desktop printers, fax machines, copiers, and scanners. The Division of Information Technology, along with our vendors, supports all networked printers at FIT.

The network printers are named starting with “PS” for print-server, followed by the location. Check with your department coordinator or onboarding liaison for the correct printer to use in your office.

Sustainability at FIT

Our Eco-Friendly Printing Practices

FIT is committed to sustainability and eco-conscious practices. We purchase Energy Star printers whenever possible. Energy Star is a US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program that determines the highest standards for energy-saving products. Additionally, we set printers in classrooms and labs to “Draft” or “Eco-mode,” as well as participate in ink recycling programs to minimize our environmental footprint. Learn more about FIT’s commitment to sustainability leadership.

What can you do to help FIT’s sustainability goals?

Print in black and white

Unless color is essential, opt for black and white printing as it uses less ink or toner.

Preview before printing

Always preview your documents before printing to avoid unnecessary pages or errors.

Minimize margins and font size

Adjust your printing settings to reduce margins and use a smaller font size to fit more content on each page, ultimately reducing the number of pages you need to print.

Print double-sided

Whenever possible, print documents double-sided. This can significantly reduce paper usage and save trees. Note: double-sided (aka duplex) printing is unavailable with self-service pay-for-print locations.

Print only what is necessary

Consider carefully whether you need to print a document. Whenever possible, share information electronically instead of printing it.
