What is an NYTimes.com Pass?
NYTimes.com Passes grant digital access to The New York Times for a predefined period of time. Your access will continue until the expiration time indicated when you activate your pass.

How do I activate an NYTimes.com Pass?
You can activate an Academic Pass from the NYTimes.com Academic Pass page. Follow the instructions for First Time User below.

To activate an Academic Pass:

You need to have a valid FIT email address.
You must log in to or create an NYTimes.com account with your FIT email address.
You cannot be an existing digital subscriber.

Can I activate a new pass before my current one expires?
No. Each NYTimes.com Pass grants a predefined period of access. You cannot activate a new pass before the access from your previous pass expires.

First Time User – How to create an account
1. Log into your MyFIT account: http://myfit.fitnyc.edu
  Enter your FIT Username
  Enter your FIT Password
  Click “Sign In”
2. Click on “NYTimes.com – Complimentary Access” under FIT Web Resources. (Why don’t I see the link? NYTimes.com Complimentary Access is only available for current FIT full-time students and faculty. For more details, please contact Enrollment Management and Student Success.)
  
  Note: If you are less than 18 years of age and would like to use, subscribe or register to any part of the Services, please ask your parent or legal guardian to review and agree to these Terms of Service before you use the Services or ask them to complete the purchase and/or registration on your behalf.
3. Begin typing Fashion Insitute of Technology “Find School…” field. If you enter FIT, you will receive no results. As you type the fulls school name, the results will narrow—select Fashion Institute of Technology from the results list.
4. Click the “Create Account” button.
5. Enter your FIT email address and create a password. Read through the terms of the agreement and check/uncheck any agreement boxes based on your preferences. Then click the “Create Account” button.
  The password you create will not sync with your FIT password; therefore, the NYT password will not change when you change your FIT password. Additionally, FIT will be unable to assist if you forget your password. You will need to contact the NYT for assistance.
  
  Did you get this message? “These credentials are already associated with an account. Please try again or log in.” Please follow the returning user instructions.
6. Once your account is created, you will receive a message to validate your account.
7. Sign in to your FIT email. Find the email from NYTimes.com and click on the activation link.
  Cybersafe Tip: never click on unsolicited activation links. Do not click on activation links if you did not recently create an account.
8. You will be redirected to your Academic Pass. Click the “Get Started” button to begin viewing NY Times articles.
  Note: You will need to repeat this process after your pass expires. You may not activate a new pass until your current pass expires.
9. Once your Academic Pass expires, you will need to complete the Returning User instructions to regain access.
Returning User – How to log in
If you get the message, “These credentials are already associated with an account. Please try again or log in.”Then you have already created an account for a NY Times pass.
1. Go to https://myaccount.nytimes.com/verification/edupass Click “Log in here” under the Create Account button.
2. Enter your FIT Email address and the password your NY Times password, then click the “Log In” button.

3. You may be directed to view your Academic Pass. Click the “Go to NYTimes.com” button and you will be directed to NYTimes.com and can begin viewing NYTimes.com articles.
Errors and Additional Assistance

NEW subscribers can follow the First Time User instructions. If the new subscriber encounters an error message, that subscriber can email [email protected].

EXISTING registered subscribers with ACTIVE PAID subscriptions created with their FIT email account need to cancel their personal subscription by connecting with a chat agent on the site, or calling 800-698-4637 before creating an account. Then follow the instructions for First Time User, if they have never used the NY Times Academic Pass before or Returning User instructions if they previously used the NY Times Academic Pass. If the subscriber encounters an error message, that subscriber can email [email protected].
