Avoid TSA PreCheck Scams This Holiday Season

Millions of us will be flying for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and many people get ahead of their travel by applying for TSA PreCheck. TSA PreCheck is a huge convenience for hurried travelers. It offers many benefits to help get people to their gate quicker, like skipping the hassle of removing shoes, belts, etc., at security checkpoints.
Unfortunately, scammers are taking advantage of the travel frenzy by sending fake emails that appear to be from TSA PreCheck, tricking you into paying for a “smoother security line” that doesn’t exist.
Here’s how the scam works:
You receive a seemingly official email urging you to “enroll” or “renew” your TSA PreCheck.
The email includes a link that leads to a fake website designed to look legitimate.
Once on the fake website, you’re prompted to pay a fee and provide personal information.
Here are some tips to stay safe:
If you’re applying for TSA PreCheck for the first time, don’t pay online. You’ll pay in person at an enrollment center, typically located at airports, Office Depots, or OfficeMax stores. Find locations near you at https://www.tsa.gov/precheck.
The TSA does not require online payment information for first-time applications.
Beware of people selling a service to help you sign up. You don’t need to pay someone to submit your TSA PreCheck application.
Be cautious of unsolicited emails, even those claiming to be from TSA PreCheck.
Don’t click on links or provide personal information unless you’re sure it’s a legitimate TSA website (always check the URL!).
Visit the official TSA PreCheck website (https://www.tsa.gov/precheck) for accurate information and enrollment details.
By following these tips, you can avoid scams and enjoy a smoother security experience this holiday season!
