IT Core Values Word of the Month program

The Division of Information Technology has a set of commonly-held values which define our culture and beliefs as an organization. Civility, teamwork, customer service, professionalism, and accountability. These five words chosen by our IT staff are the building blocks of our core values statement:

Our IT values are part of our DNA. They guide the way we work with the FIT community, and with each other. Through civility, teamwork, accountability, professionalism and customer service, we have created a vibrant culture where ideas can blossom, people can thrive and success can flourish. In all of our relationships, we will demonstrate unwavering commitment to our core values.

To keep these five IT core value words and the overall statement, front and center, in our workday and in our lives, we will be launching a recognition program. Our IT Core Values Word of the Month program will highlight each of our core value words, a different word each month.  Below are some examples of how IT Staff have either witnessed, experienced, or demonstrated each of the core value words.  Coming in December, “customer service”.

  • We got a call from an upset manager regarding a critical data error.  Sal Rando was able to check that no data was lost.  We forwarded this information to the area, much to their relief and gratitude.
    This is a great example of customer service at its best.

Teamwork

  • The Enterprise Applications team works together all the time to help solve problems and/ or help discover new solutions to current processes.

  • We have had an immediate need to move document imaging into BDM from NolijWeb.  Alison O'Connor and Erica Horowitz jumped right into help with the transition without being asked to do so.

  • Meredith was leaving for the day and Bill, who was running late to a meeting, offered to check on something for her with someone who might be at the meeting. Meredith thanked Bill and told him "It's totally not your job, and only if you run into him." Bill comes back to the office and tells Meredith "We're a team! That's what we do." (Or something to that effect...) But you get the point. What's more, the issue Bill was offering to check on had been negatively impacting other team members in the Feldman building. So he displayed teamwork not only toward Meredith, but also toward his team members who reside in another area of the college from where he does. Well done Bill! 🙂

Civility

  • The other day I went into Doris's office and I was very upset, near tears because of some personal issues.... she hugged me, and I started to cry... that was exactly what I needed at that moment...That was super civil of her, and shows that she cares... your co-workers care, you just need to give them a chance to express....

  • I have witnessed situations where members of IT have been confronted by an uncivil person.  The IT members remained calm and helped the person understand they are only trying to help. The result was the situation got resolved and the person then realized how they had been behaving and apologized.
