On Tuesday, October 20th from Noon- 2PM the FIT Pledge Purple event will take place in the breezeway. For past Pledge Purple events IT staff have taken the pledge and we have posted information about how technology designed to help end sexual and domestic violence.
In the Breezeway, IT Staff will be collecting old cellphones with the Student Life Department for Hopeline® from Verizon.
WHAT IS Hopeline®:
HopeLine collects no-longer used wireless phones, batteries, chargers and accessories in any condition from any service provider to benefit victims and survivors of domestic violence. Wireless phones given to HopeLine are turned into valuable financial support for domestic violence awareness and prevention initiatives.
WHAT ABOUT MY PERSONAL DATA ON THE PHOHE:
The major reason people do not donate or recycle their old cellphones is because they are worried about their personal data still being accessible on the phone.1 IT Staff will be at the Pledge Purple event to help clear personal data from phones and prepare the phones for donation.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO:
Bring your old, no-longer used wireless phones along with the charger to the donation table located in the breezeway. While at the event be sure to visit other tables for valuable information about more ways you can help prevent sexual and domestic violence, take the pledge.
WHAT IF I WANT TO DONATE AFTER THE PLEDGE PURPLE EVENT:
Collection of phones will continue throughout the semester. Donation boxes will be located in Student Life, David Dubinsky Center 7th Floor.
