On Thursday, August 24, to increase cybersecurity and to protect personal and campus information resources from theft, malicious destruction, alterations, or other inappropriate or negligent acts, the majority of FIT computers will automatically lock and require the user to enter their FIT password to regain access after three hours of inactivity on all Windows computer and four hours of inactivity on Mac computers in labs and classrooms. Please note that if you have set auto lock locally on your computer, this new setting will override it.
We strongly encourage you to lock your computer manually when leaving the computer unattended. You can do this on a Windows computer by pressing the Windows Key + L, or by pressing Control + Alt + Delete then select “Lock this computer”; on Mac computers, press Command + Option + Eject.
When working on computers in the labs or classrooms always save your work and log off FIT computers when you are finished working. Unattended locked computers in labs and classrooms may be restarted.
