On Tuesday, August 1, the Division of Information Technology will begin upgrading all FIT Windows computers to Internet Explorer 11 (IE11). Older versions of Internet Explorer—IE10 and lower—are no longer supported by Microsoft and will not receive security and other updates.
IE11 is faster, more secure, and has more features than older versions. It is also compatible with most applications and websites, many of which are beginning to discontinue support for older versions of IE.
If your FIT computer is turned on and connected to the internet via an ethernet cord, you will automatically receive the IE update, and it will install when you restart your computer. It may take several minutes for the upgrade and patches to complete. The first time you launch IE11 an additional tab may appear with Microsoft security services. Please close this tab and do not click the “install” button. The services offered are already configured and provided by the Division of Information Technology.
If your computer does not receive the IE upgrade by August 10, please contact TechHelp. If you have an FIT-issued laptop that does not have IE11, you may bring it to TechHelp, and a technician will assist you with upgrading the browser.
